Scripture Meditations for Weight Loss

I recently stepped on the scale to find out that I’d gained weight- Eek! While I wasn’t happy about that, knowing the truth has spurred me into taking steps to get my weight back down into a more comfortable range.  Even though I’m confident that I’ll be able to lose the weight, I noticed that my mind was not totally at peace about this!  Whenever my mind gets rattled, I need to remind myself of what is true in the Word of God! I’ve gathered some scriptures that I can meditate on as I get my body back into shape, and I thought I’d share them with you too!

Scriptures to remember when you're trying to lose weight and get in shape!

1. Perspective: In the big picture of life, my weight is a small-ish thing.

Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (Matthew 6:25)

For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. (Romans 14:17)

2. God cares about all things in my life. Even the “small-ish” things. In fact, he cares about things I don’t even give very much thought, like the number of hairs on my head!

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)

3.  God. He is for me, He gives me strength, His grace is all sufficient, and He makes my way perfect! What a breath of fresh air!

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ (2 Cor. 2:14)

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (2 Cor. 9:8)

It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. (Psalm 18:32)

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Phil. 4:13)

If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)

Even though I’m very much in favor of having a healthy body, I’d say having a healthy mind that is thinking right thoughts is of greater importance than the number on the scale! I’d love for you to share your thoughts in the comments below!

Scriptures to keep your mind on things above as you are losing weight and getting in shape!

  1. Thank you for these! You’ve listed some of my favorite verses! I’m in awe that he cares about the tiny parts of my life and so grateful.

  2. Our emotional health and who we are in Christ is the best place to start because performance-focus gets my mind too much on me. Then when I fail or don’t make as much progress as I feel I should, my security isn’t in my performance, but on the unchanging eternal God.
